Reduce your power consumption from fossil, CO₂-intensive energy sources! Use primarily solar power, wind energy or hydropower. CO₂Watch is the first app that supports you.
And if you have HomeKit compatible sockets, it even works automatically!

You want to actively do something about climate change? Do you want to save CO₂ but dont have a solar system on your roof? And no room for a wind turbine?

No problem! CO₂Watch knows the current electricity mix at your location and makes a forecast for the next 24 hours. So you can see at a glance when your electricity is produced with particularly low CO2 emissions and when the "most environmentally friendly time" has come for washing and drying clothes, washing dishes or charging your e-bike.

This is how CO₂Watch works:

The amount of CO₂ emissions generated during electricity production depends on the composition of the energy sources used - i.e. the "energy mix".

In most European countries, the energy mix is generated from the following energy sources:
- Fossil energy sources (e.g. lignite, hard coal, crude oil, natural gas)
- Nuclear energy (uranium)
- renewable energy sources (e.g. sun, wind, water, geothermal)

Large quantities of environmentally harmful greenhouse gases such as CO₂ are released as a result of the combustion process of fossil fuels. Renewable energy sources, on the other hand, do not produce any greenhouse gases, or only very small ones, during the actual power generation process.

Unlike fossil fuels, however, the availability of renewable energy sources is subject to fluctuations (e.g. due to season, time of day, duration of sunshine, wind conditions). This also leads to fluctuations in CO₂ emissions during the production of the electricity mix.

CO₂Watch makes these fluctuations visible and calculates a 24-hour forecast from a variety of parameters (weather data, generation and consumption forecasts).

Consumers can be controlled manually or automatically with the current or forecast data and thus use a "CO₂-optimized" electricity mix.

In the present version CO₂Watch supports the following European countries:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Hungary.
(More regions will be available in upcoming versions)

CO₂Watch automatically uses the data that applies to your location. If you want to access data from other regions (e.g. to see the progress of renewable energy in neighbouring countries), you can select the appropriate country under "Settings/CO₂Watch".
